Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 19) - Drivers anxious to be on the road in Beijing will be able to bypass the registration plate lottery by purchasing a pure electric vehicle. Buyers of EVs will have their cars directly registered, the Beijing Daily reported the city's Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology as announcing.
Electric vehicles are an important tool in reducing emissions on the road, but due to high prices and low market awareness, they are very much in need of government assistance. According to China Passenger Car Association Assistant Secretary Cui Dongshu, despite the fact that most pure EVs currently on the market are variants of gasoline-powered models, they are anywhere from 150,000 to 200,000 yuan ($23,538-$31,383) higher in price. This is primarily due to low EV production capacity in the country and limited resources of batteries, motors and other supplies.
According to the soon to be released Five-Year Guideline, electric vehicles bought and driven in Beijing will not be included in vehicle purchase restriction policies. However, plates for EVs will still adhere to the number sequence for all vehicles registered. Furthermore, the lottery exemption for EVs will only be valid for a limited time, government officials said
The registration plate lottery exemption is one of only many policies the government has proposed for promoting EV sales. The municipal government of Beijing is considering providing additional subsidies for EVs of up to 120,000 yuan ($18,830).Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 19) - Drivers anxious to be on the road in Beijing will be able to bypass the registration plate lottery by purchasing a pure electric vehicle.
