Sales prospects for Peugeot imports looking bright

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 11) - Although sales of imported Peugeots in China are only around 2,000 a month, Vice President for the brand's imported car division Ye Jun is still very optimistic. In an interview with Beijing Business Today, Mr. Ye affirmed that Peugeot was committed to improving its brand image in the country, with the hot-selling 3008 and RCZ helping to contribute to that aim.

"This year are sales grew 70 percent [from last year]," Mr. Ye (pictured above) said, adding that Peugeot already met its sales target in June. At the time the 3008 was announced, Mr. Ye already predicted the company's import sales would double. "Before we had spent two years before doubling our sales, but this time it only took one year." He predicted, that following an increase in Peugeot's brand awareness, sales would double again, emphasizing the link between sales and brand image. "[First] the acceptance rate of the brand needs to be relatively high, [which will] naturally be of great help to sales and customer awareness."

All statistics show growth in the market for imported cars growing immensely this year. Mr. Ye believes that the 3008 (pictured below) is a prime example of that. Meanwhile, the RCX has managed to gather over 100 orders in the few days it has been on market. Mr. Ye revealed that a Peugeot SUV would be coming over next year.

When asked about the confusing relationship between imported Peugeots and the Dongfeng Peugeot, Mr. Ye said that it wasn't necessary for imported models to be sold exclusively via the joint venture's network. "The principle we hold in developing a network is to see whether or not it is acceptable. Regardless whether a dealer is Dongfeng Peugeot's or independent, if it adheres to our requirements [and] satisfies market requests, we will expand upon it."
