The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers released national sales results from January to July of this year, nbd.com.cn reported today. According to the CAAM, 10.46 million vehicles were sold in the country in the seven month period. Passenger vehicle sales constituted approximately 8.1 million of that amount, representing a gain of slightly over 5 percent from 2010. Commercial vehicle sales meanwhile fell from last year.

Approximately 1.3 million vehicles were sold in July alone, slightly less than the amount sold in the previous month. According to CAAM officials, the amount is in line with normal growth trends for the industry.

July is a traditionally slow season for automobile sales, with the only growth occurring in the SUV segment. However, when looking at a broad perspective, the SUV and minivan segments grew dramatically in the period from January to July of this year, when compared with 2010.
