2005 Research Report on US Industrial Valves Industry
Published date: Jun, 2005
US industrial valve
market to grow 4.6%
annually through 2009
US industrial valve demand will
increase 4.6 percent annually to
$14.8 billion in 2009. Gains will be
driven by an improved outlook for
capital expenditures coming out of
the early 2000s downturn. In
addition, growth in process manufacturers’
shipments will support
valve demand.
Shipments of valves from US
facilities will increase 3.9 percent
annually to $11.5 billion. Despite
solid export opportunities, the US
will remain a large net importer of
valves and, in fact, the trade
deficit in these products will
continue to increase.
Automatic valves to be
the fastest growing type
Gains for more advanced and
higher value automatic valves will
outpace those of standard valve
products. Still, standard valves will
remain the larger product segment,
representing more than 70
percent of the total in 2009.
Iron, plastic valves
to outpace steel products
Steel and steel alloys will remain
the most commonly used material
for valve construction. However,
Freedonia’s China office now open; visit www.freedoniagroup.com for details
shipments of valves made from
plastics and iron will both increase
more rapidly than those made
from steel.
Resource extraction
to offer best market
opportunities
Process manufacturing and
utilities will continue to dominate
valve demand, comprising approximately
two-thirds of the total
market due to the large fluid
handling requirements of these
sectors. But through 2009, the
fastest gains are expected in the
resource extraction industries,
particularly petroleum and natural
gas, based on strong demand for
these products and the development
of deep water offshore
oilfields.
Study coverage
The new Freedonia industry study,
Industrial Valves, is available for
$4100. It provides historical US
demand data (1994, 1999, 2004)
plus forecasts to 2009 and 2014
by industrial valve material, product
and market. The study also
considers market environment
indicators, presents company
market share data, assesses the
industry structure and profiles 40
US industry competitors including
Crane, Dresser, Emerson Electric,
Flowserve, Tyco and Watts Water
Technologies.
