摘要
Mobile penetration in the UAE is very high at over 150%. After a long period of monopoly by incumbent Etisalat, competition was introduced into the market with the launch of services by new start-up ‘du’ in February 2007. Both operators are locally owned, both with significant government ownership. The two operators rely on service levels and new products to compete, rather than price. The UAE is a particularly interesting market as du establishes itself in such a high penetration environment. The very high level of the expatriate population at over 80% does present opportunities that might not be present in markets with a less fluid population.
