During a period in which Indonesia’s telecommunications sector underwent major regulatory restructuring, the two dominant players lost their monopoly rights. The domestic telephone market, previously the exclusive domain of PT Telkom, began to open up with the entry of PT Indosat into this market. And Telkom, in turn, started to have an impact on the international call business. The expansion of fixed-wireless networks has also been a very significant move. There are signs that the restructuring of the big telcos and ongoing privatisation push have together started to have a positive overall effect on the industry. This report takes a look at the major players in Indonesia’s fixed-line market.
