Their combined total represents approximately 73% of all imports and exports.
The total import value for the year 2006 was $4,637,293,000. This represents a 0.9% increase from year 2005. The U.S. had imported industry related merchandises from 143 countries in 2006. The top importing countries were: China, $2,907,621,000 (62.70%); Mexico, $283,758,000 (6.12%); Italy, $230,370,000 (4.97%); Canada, $132,775,000 (2.86%); and Bangladesh, $110,425,000 (2.38%). Their combined total represents approximately 79% of import from all countries.
The total export value for the year 2006 was $986,593,000. This represents a 2.8% decrease from year 2005. The U.S. had exported industry related merchandises to 166 countries in 2006. The top exporting countries were: Mexico, $178,220,000 (18.06%); Canada, $134,303,000 (13.61%); Honduras, $110,748,000 (11.23%); Belgium, $83,003,000 (8.41%); and Japan, $81,876,000 (8.30%). Their combined total represents approximately 60% of export to all countries.
Adding the import and subtracting the export, the total U.S. consumption value of this industry for the year was $6,251,000,000.
